This April, works by Huang Rui are on view in double solo exhibitions
organized by Chinese Contemporary Gallery in Beijing and 10 Chancery
Lane Gallery in Hong Kong. This is Huang Rui’s first solo show in the
Mainland.

Chairman Mao 10,000 RMB, at Chinese Contemporary, features top works
from the past fourteen years of Huang Rui’s career. A founding member
of the avant-garde art Stars Group in 1979 and now a vocal advocate for
the 798 arts district in Dashanzi, Huang Rui has never shied away from
the controversial issues of his day. These minimalist works on canvas,
transparent plexi-glass sculptures, and mixed-media installations
(including one that incorporates new Chinese bank notes), play with the
content and form of famous political slogans to create simple yet
beautiful, and humorous yet serious, references to the contradictions
of China’s socialist market economy.

　　这个四月，黄锐的作品将在中国当代画廊（北京）和10 Chancery Lane（香港）同期举办个人展览。这是黄锐首次在中国内地的个人作品展。中国当代画廊的“毛主席万圆”，汇聚了黄锐过去十四年创作生涯中的极品。作为从 1979年的“星星画派”成员之一到现在的798大山子艺术区的倡导者，黄锐从未在他所面对的争议事件中退缩。此次作品包括布上油画，透明塑料玻璃制品雕塑，以及混合媒体材料制成的装置（其中包括中国银行发行的新版人民币），双关语和著名政治标语的运用共同营造了简单而美观、幽默而不失严肃的画面，讲述着中国社会市场经济的对立。
