在影像慢慢浮现的时候,影像本身的历史却在一点点消逝。去行为每一张画面的时候,其实是在吞噬每一个历史场景。单帧的历史画面是历史的每一个时刻的高度凝练,是所有历史脉络的集体跳动,其间的力量将每一个笔触传达到画面上。选择以毛为主题并非对毛时代的迷恋,而是出于那个时代相对于当下所产生的距离感和生疏感,正是这种陌生让我产生了一种不确定的好奇和窥视欲。那个年代结束的同时我出生了。这期间有着时间承上启下的必然,也有着断层的偶然。我的描写并非一种体验,而是对历史的神化。历史的真实与其说是史性的,考证式的,不如说是文学性的。每一种历史解说无不带有色彩,是过去时态的虚拟,其真实是文学的真实,人性的真实,是体验化了的。而有时通过知识,也能堆积起历史的厚度。画面历史的模糊感,影象的质感和造型的不确定性使得两者可以在理论上相结合,而实践中这是一种痛苦的,扭曲的变形,正是这种不断的建构和解构中产生了力量,这种力量是作品所必需的。

Even as the painting was emerging piece by piece the actual history of its creation was continually fading. The formation of each picture is a manifestation of the contiguous meshing of linear time. Each point of time can be used as a lens from which one can view the entire interplay of history. It is this phenomenon that imbues power to every brushstroke.The selection of Chairman Mao results from the desire to capture the unique sense of distance in between days of the past and of the present. My curiosity towards this strange time period causes a yearning to peer at it indefinitely. I was born in this time period when that chapter of history closed its pages and opened a new gap that connected the history with the future. I portray images that can be open to interpretation and imagined without the influence of someone else’s experiences. The historical truth of history is not really a truth at all. It is a literary interpretation rather than true textual research. No explanation of history is without bias. Perhaps history is made up of assumptions from the past. The real truth of history is seen through the eyes of humans but you must experience it for yourself. Historical understanding can only grow more clear as one builds up knowledge for themselves.
The mistiness portrayed on the painted history scenes combines with the uncertainty following the chosen historical figures and the context they reside in theoretically. It is a pain to make this combination happen – a bit of a distortion – but after the break down and reconstruction occurred over and over again, the power behind the painting emerged, came into being, and is now necessary for all of my work.
